Garbh Allt Shiel

Built during the reign of Queen Victoria, Garbh Allt Shiel (translating as ‘The Ruggedness of Allt Shiel’) is a rustic, charming cottage in a quieter area of the estate, offering ultimate peace and privacy in surroundings that reflect the cottage’s storied heritage.

Once the residence of the Estate’s head stalker, Charles McIntosh, the cottage is now a relaxing retreat for nature lovers and families who can enjoy unrivalled views of wild deer found roaming in front of the property. Various bird species can be spotted in this secluded section of the estate, too.

Queen Victoria was fond of the tranquillity offered by the cottage, writing in her journals that the position of the single-storey, semi-detached cottage is “beautiful”.

The maximum occupancy for the Garbh Allt Shiel is 8 guests - this requires one person to sleep on the trundle bed in the twin room.

Bookings at this property are on a Sunday to Sunday basis.
