Marked WalksBalmoral Castle

Apart from enjoying the peace and quiet whilst walking through the grounds and gardens around the Castle, visitors can enjoy the marked walks through the woods, up Craig Gowan hill overlooking the Castle and along the riverside.

These marked walks offer stunning views of the Castle and Estates and pass by some of the commemorative monuments.

Some monuments record happy events. There are cairns celebrating the marriages of Queen Victoria's children - Princess Helena, Princess Beatrice, Prince Arthur and Prince Leopold.

However others monuments were raised in memory of those who have passed away.

An imposing cairn was raised on Craig Lurachain in memory of Prince Albert and a granite memorial to King George V overlooks the River Dee.

Queen Victoria erected a huge bronze statue of Prince Albert - the Prince is depicted wearing highland dress and the Order of the Garter, with his retriever and his gun.

In due course a statue of Queen Victoria, commemorating the golden jubilee was erected opposite the statue of the Prince.
