Michael Kitchen

Michael Kitchen is a professional artist, demonstrator to art societies and a very enthusiastic, sensitive tutor with a lifetime’s painting experience.

On leaving school he was highly recommended for Art College but, also possessing an adventurous spirit, chose a more exciting career in the Army.

Throughout his military service however, Michael studied art and made the most of the exciting opportunities that worldwide travel presented; painting, exhibiting and carrying out commissions.   

In 1989 he took early retirement as a major to live and paint full-time in Aberdeenshire.

Since then he has become an established artist and, for the past ten years, an international painting tutor. Residential painting holidays are held at Wood of Shaws, his beautiful riverside home and studio, but also at several other spectacular venues in Scotland and overseas.

At various times he has contributed articles to the ‘Leisure Painter’ magazine, had work published in the ‘International Pastel Artist’ and for four years was an official demonstrator in portraiture at ‘The Artists & Illustrators Exhibition’ in London.

Accomplished in the use of watercolours, oils and pastels his favourite subjects are landscapes, portraiture and animal studies. Conscious that everyone’s requirements are different Michael ensures that guests receive plenty of genuine teaching, personal tuition and lots of encouragement.
